Archaeologists announced Wednesday it had discovered an inscription in Arabic, when renovating a house in the Old City of Jerusalem, which represents a rare example of life at the time it was Muslim, in the tenth century.
Historians believe that the author is a retired Army, who wished to express its appreciation for the land granted to him by the Caliph Al-Muqtadir. On the marble slab of 10cm2 are engraved the words: "Emir of the faithful."
In that time, Jerusalem was under the control of Baghdad in the Abbasid empire, who used to reward his soldiers and encourage their loyalty, as shown by the discovery of 910 dated by Professor Moshe Sharon of Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
